Ten pepper plants and eight tomato plants are in the raised bed garden. I had already amended the
soil clay with about fifty pounds of compost per plant, but that wasn't enough to do anything to clods of this caliber.
I dug seats for each plant, broke up the dirt down to about two feet, and mixed the dirt with some "Tomato and Vegetable Plant Soil" I bought, which is mostly compost and peat moss it looks like. I did this by hand, and only mixed enough of the soil into the clay to keep it from sticking together in large clumps.
I'm gonna get some large pots to put a few tomatoes and peppers in to compare against the raised bed and the side-of-the-house-extreme-gardening-annex, and also because I don't want to give up any of the plants. I figure the more plants I have, the more likely I will be to meet my modest goal of ten billion tomatoes.
